Hemingway was unspeakably awesome in nearly every way possible. This guy is worthy of his own “Washington, Washington” flash animation.
The slightest irritation, Eisie recalled, could throw Hemingway into a fit of rage. When the two entered the village of Cojimar, they were instantly surrounded by a group of fishermen. “[Hemingway] was horrible – insulting everybody,” Eisie said. One man’s five-year-old son in the crowd asked his father, in Spanish, if Hemingway was an actor of some kind, and Hemingway went crazy when he overheard the question. “He got blue in his face, he started to shake and got wild, berserk. ‘Blank Blank! Blank!’ He was galloping, he was jumping up and down like a wild mule. He took his cane, smashed it on rocks… and took his shirt off, and tore it to shreds… I ran away with my camera, because he would have killed me.”
